Wigwams Primitive Campsite
The primitive campsite at the Wigwams Preserve is a short distance from our locally famous Wigwams “Godfrey” Camp. The campsite features a picnic table and fire ring, and shares access to the outhouse with the cabin.

To access the primitive campsite, please follow the driving access directions to the Wigwams “Godfrey” Camp and park your vehicle so as not to interfere with other vehicles. This is a “Pack-It-In, Pack-It-Out” camp and users should bring everything they need including drinking water or a water purifier.
Vehicle access from US Route 1 in Columbia Falls, Maine is by turning north on Tibbettstown Road and driving 6.5 miles until you reach a cemetery at the corner of Montegail Road. Take a right on Montegail Road and stay on the paved road for 3 miles, where you will see a “Passamaquoddy Blueberry Land” sign (Montegail Road will continue to the left here). Turn onto the gravel road through the blueberry barrens for 2 miles. When presented with choices of left or right or straight – always stay straight. At the “Y” intersection bear to the left and continue for another 1.5 miles. The forest should be on your right and the blueberry fields to the left on this section of road. Just before the road becomes wooded on both sides, there is a small granite post on the right and there is a clear parking spot on the left. If your vehicle lacks higher clearance, please park here. Otherwise, continue approximately 0.3 mile to the Wigwams Camp. Out of respect for others, please do not block the access road.
The camp can also be reached by canoe by pulling out before the rapids and portaging down the access road which parallels the river. The approximate coordinates for the pullout just before the Wigwam Rips are: 44.8286286°N 67.7544602°W. A portage road runs along the river for about 1,100 feet to the primitive campsite on the right.
