VOLUNTEER with DSF!

Volunteers help with fin clipping prior to salmon release

UPCOMING PROJECTS.

All sorts of volunteers are welcome and no particular skill is required. Typically every year we have volunteer projects at our fish hatcheries, on our 6000+ acres of conserved land and the 55 miles of rivers we care for.  Find out more below.

Trail Maintenance

Washington/Hancock  Counties, ME

We have trails and roads needing brush clearing on the 6 rivers where DSF has conserved land.  The rivers are in Washington and Hancock counties and the surrounding regions in Maine. Projects will be held through October 2023 as volunteers are registered.  DSF personnel conduct all projects and provide all tools and materials.  Sign up below for complete details.

River

Cleanups

Washington/Hancock  Counties, ME

Similar to trail and road clearing, the river cleanup projects are more specific to a localized river area, such as dams, river shorelines and ponds.

Supervision is provided by DSF staff, and all materials and tools are provided.  Sign up below for complete details.

Hatchery

Volunteers

E. Machias or Columbia Falls, ME

Every year, DSF needs volunteers at our two conservation hatcheries.  Projects are fun and simple and provide an opportunity to learn about the rewilding process that makes DSF conservation hatchery programs so unique.

We welcome classrooms of students from elementary to university level, teachers, please be in touch!

Younger students can watch salmon develop from eggs with the Fish Friends Program; older students can help out in the hatchery or with fin clipping and stocking.

Teens can attend the annual Cobscook Institute's River Camp to participate in habitat restoration and research projects.

We are always looking for Land Stewards to help us upkeep and maintain our 6,000 acres of protected land across Washington and Hancock Counties. If you live near one of our preserves and want to help monitor the area regularly, please be in touch.

We also welcome photographers and drone artists to document our properties and donate aesthetic photos for DSF use in promotions. You retain rights to your work and will be credited for any contributions.
